Your Appliance New Year’s Resolution List

Life can get hectic, and sometimes, our appliances take a back seat in our busy schedules. Taking a moment to assess the condition of your appliances can save you from unexpected repairs down the road. Here are some small appliance chores to add to your New Year’s Resolutions list:

Dishwasher:

  • Remove and clean debris screen (filter in the bottom of the dispenser) 🍽️

  • Run a dishwasher cleaner for the unit, e.g., lemi-shine or a similar product 🚿

  • Wipe around the door gasket and clean off any spills or debris for a proper door seal 🧽

Refrigerator:

  • Check and replace the water filter, if necessary 💧

  • Blow out the condenser coils (or vacuum) for optimal performance and less damage than brushes 💨

  • Clean around the door gasket to remove stickiness and promote a good door seal 🚪

Stove:

  • Wipe around the door and clean under the drawer at the bottom 🔥

  • Remove the knobs and use a mild soap and sponge to clean off any built-up debris (be cautious not to short out switches) 🧼

  • Scrape out any large spills inside the oven and use an oven cleaner or run the self-clean cycle 🌡️

Disposal:

  • To remove smells, fill the unit with ice and dish detergent; run it without water for a minute, then flush the unit with water 💦

Washer:

  • Run the washer with hot water and a 1/4 cup of bleach to disinfect it (avoid liquid fabric softener) 🧺

  • Inspect the fill hoses for leaks or damage from age 👀

Dryer:

  • Check the lint screen for softener build-up; clean with hot water and dish soap as needed 🧼

  • Ensure good air flow at the outside vent and check for kinks or breaks behind the dryer 🌬️

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎅🎉
